RALPH RADIX, OWNER

At a crossroads in his career and searching for a fulfilling next step, Ralph Radix founded Heartland Building & Design in May of 1997.

For Ralph, taking an ordinary space and making it more functional and beautiful is the most rewarding part of his job. The values he hopes people recognize in Heartland Building & Design are the company's commitment to high quality work, craftsmanship and attention to detail; the relational nature of Heartland B & D's business practices – that work is not just a business transaction here, there is always a relational, personal element; and the company's focus on creating beautiful spaces.

MEG RADIX, OWNER

Meg Radix entered the trades “via the backdoor” as she says. She never intended to be a general contractor or designer, but has always harbored a passion for art and design and over time has been able to incorporate those strengths into the day-to-day operation of Heartland Building & Design.

Meg’s approach involves partnering with clients to look at their space and determine how to maximize it both functionally and aesthetically, with the end goal of creating a space that is not only beautiful, but makes the client feel relaxed and glad to be in.

BARTLETT HOLMES, LEAD CARPENTER

Bartlett Holmes, Lead Carpenter, got his start in the trades on the East Coast in 2006 working in the concrete countertop business. In addition to kick-starting his construction career, that period included work with Tom Silva for the popular home construction show This Old House. A few years down the road and after a move to Wisconsin, Bartlett continued in the trades, taking on various carpentry projects for local contractors and eventually joining the Heartland Building & Design team.

When he’s not on the jobsite, Bartlett coaches varsity soccer for Wisconsin Heights High School and enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, hiking, camping, fishing and gardening.

GEORGE REYNOLDS, CARPENTER

GEORGE REYNOLDS, CARPENTER

The most recent addition to the Heartland Building & Design team, George Reynolds has been building, fixing and creating since childhood. What started as assistance on DIY home projects ( a new deck, an addition, etc. ) quickly turned into a love for, in his own words, “Building things that look nice, not just things. There’s a lot of people that do home construction work and it’s just rough and crude, but I think it’s nice when it all comes together perfectly.”

Previous to his time with Heartland Building & Design, George worked as an arborist in Milwaukee for six years, and has been producing and selling rock climbing holds to climbing gyms across the U.S. and Canada for the past 10 years.

In his free time, George can be found rock climbing at Devil’s Lake State Park, fly fishing or designing rock climbing holds.
